One of the easiest protein dishes you will make for your family dinner is this easy slow cooker pulled pork. It is a family favorite we make for dinner and have extra on hand for lunch the next day.

Tools Needed

Here are the key tools I used to make this recipe:

6 Qt Crock Pot. A good crock pot for this recipe is a must. Here is one I recommend.

Ingredients Needed

Pork shoulder is my go-to meat for an easy pulled pork. I am always looking at meat prices at the grocery stores, and sometimes there are great pork roasts with bone-in. I have used these cuts as well, and it turns out just as well.

Rub for the Meat

Dry basil - Brings a sweet with a slight peppery flavor and hints of mint and anise.

Onion powder - Brings a pungent onion taste that is not as sharp, with a slight sweet flavor and a hint of zest. It is a very concentrated flavor, so a little goes a long way.

Garlic powder - Brings a milder flavor of garlic to a dish with sweet and earthy notes. This is a concentrated garlic flavor, so a little goes a long way.

Paprika - Ranges from mild to smoky and sweet to spicy. This red pepper gives color to your dish and the flavor profile of your choice of paprika.

Ground black pepper - A sharp heat that typically enhances the flavor of any dish with citrusy and earthy notes. The coarser the grind, the more pronounced the flavor will be. The fresher the grind of the pepper, the more pronounced the flavors will be.

Salt

Barbecue sauce. This bbq sauce is perfect for the best bbq pulled pork.

How to Make The Recipe

With just a few steps, you can have some amazing crock pot bbq pulled pork sandwiches.

  1. Combine all the spices together in a bowl and mix together.
  2. Place the pork into the crock pot.
  3. Rub all the combined spices on every side of the meat.
    • If you have an extremely large piece of meat, cut into several pieces and rub the spices around each piece of meat.
  4. Close the crock pot with the lid and turn on to slow cook
    • If you are short on time, 4 hours and high will work.
    • If you have time and need to turn on the crock pot before work, turn on low and for 8 hours.
  5. Once the meat is tender and falls apart easily when pulled apart with two forks, break apart the meat with those two forks into small pieces.
  6. Follow the recipe to make the bbq sauce.
  7. Add the barbecue sauce to the meat and mix together.
  8. Serve on brioche rolls and a side of cole slaw.

What to Serve with This Recipe

This slow cooker barbeque pulled pork recipe is truly addicting. Serve on your favorite buns with a side of homemade coleslaw.

How to Store Leftovers

I am always looking for ways to meal plan. Bbq pulled pork is great for several meals.

Refrigerate. Store in the refrigerator for up to 7 days.

Freeze. Place into a ziplic bag or plastic container and freeze for up to three months.

How to Reheat Leftovers

Reheat refrigerated bbq pulled pork on the stove in a cast iron pan to desired warmth.

To thaw: Place the pulled pork into the refrigerator overnight to thaw. If you need to thaw the meat quickly, place into a bowl with room temperature water to thaw.
