This is truly the best and easiest taco meat recipe you will ever make. Add all your ingredients into the crock pot, let the magic happen in 6-8 hours and enjoy in your favorite meal - nacho table, soft tacos or burritos.

Why You'll Love This Recipe

Dinner for multiple days and no one complains? This is my kind of meal! Here is why you will love this taco meat recipe:

Family favorite! It's definitely a meal my kids ask for on a regular basis. A good hearty homemade meal is always a plus in our household.

Easy to Make! Dinner can't get any easier than throwing all the ingredients into a crock pot and letting time do the work for you.

Meal Prep Friendly! I love making a large batch of taco meat so that I can create multiple meals with less work. Call it Mexican week at your house or freezer meal plans are great too.

Ingredients Needed

With just a few ingredients, you can make the best taco meat for a crowd. (Scroll down for the full recipe with measurements)

A basic taco seasoning. I make a batch of this seasoning to have on hand and use it for all my Mexican-inspired dishes.

Get the taco seasoning recipe here.

Water. To retain some of the moisture in the beef, I like to add water. You can substitute with canned tomatoes or broth.

Ground Beef. The best choice of ground beef is what you prefer and like. I use 80/20 fat content in my ground meats. It's not as dry and has excellent flavor. If you choose a slightly leaner meat, opt for 95/5. Keep in mind that your meat may turn out a bit dry.

How to Make Ground Beef Taco Meat

Step 1: Add all ingredients into the crock pot and mix.

Step 2: Turn the crockpot on low for 8 hours and let time do the work.

Tip: The meat can be done in 6 hours on a low setting as well. If you turn on the crock pot before going to work, the eight-hour time frame has worked out for me as well.

Step 3: Once the meat is done cooking, break it up with a hand masher. Done!

Get the hand masher! It truly is an amazing tool not just for potatoes, but breaking down all cooked ground meats.

Ways to Use Taco Meat

I love how versatile taco meat is and how many meals can be made with this one recipe. Here is a list of some delicious ideas for your taco meat recipe:

Nacho Night. Cover the table with foil, add tortilla chips around the table, place all the toppings in the middle and allow all guests to make their own nacho table bowl.

Taco Night. Create a taco bar night. Serve a variation of hard taco shells and soft taco shells. Slice and dice all desired toppings and allow each guest to create their own taco.

Burrito Stock Up. Take the leftover meat and make burritos for dinner. Freeze the rest for another dinner.

How to Store Ground Beef Taco Meat

Store leftovers in a container with a lid in the refrigerator for up to 3-5 days.

You can also freeze the meat in a plastic bag for up to 90 days. To thaw, place into the refrigerator overnight.
