Oven-roasted sweet potato cubes are caramelized with a crisp outside and a tasty, soft inside. The only thing to add to these sweet cubes is seasoning, which enhances the potato's flavor.

Different Kinds of Sweet Potatoes

Did you know there are 14 different types of sweet potatoes? They are all different, from the color to the texture to even getting them confused with yams. The most common one sold in the grocery store is the Beauregard. This is the one I used in this recipe. The skin is slightly red with an orange inside. It can be used for baking, frying, and mashing. This potato is commonly sold in the United States.

If you want to learn about the other 13 sweet potato varieties, read this article.

How to Cut Sweet Potatoes for Roasting

Sweet potatoes are a little tougher to cut than regular potatoes, so I always use a cutting board.

Do you have to peel sweet potatoes before roasting? That is a preference thing. I have always kept the peel on. Plus, the peel contains a tremendous amount of nutrients, like fiber, antioxidants, and vitamins A and C.

Remove the ends off each side of the sweet potato.

Slice into rounds about ½ inch thick. Then, take each round and dice it into ½-inch cubes. To make the process quicker, you can stack two rounds on top of each other.

Should I boil sweet potatoes first? Nope, not necessary. You can if you wish, but the sweet potatoes bake through easily in the oven as the cubes are small enough.

How to Roast Sweet Potatoes

Use the instructions above to cut the sweet potato. Tip: try to get them as similar in size as possible.

Lay out flat on a half baking sheet. Season with spices and olive oil and mix.

What temperature should I bake the potatoes?

Oven-roast the sweet potatoes at 400°F for 30-45 minutes, or until the tops are slightly golden brown or crisp-tender.

If you roast them at 425°F, they will still come out tender on the inside and crisp on the outside.

What to Pair with Sweet Potatoes

These oven-roasted sweet potato cubes can be served with almost anything. It is a great dinner recipe as a side dish. Here are a few great recipes for roasted sweet potatoes.
