These homemade whole wheat tortilla wraps are better than store-bought multiplied by a hundred. They are so easy to make with just a few simple ingredients.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups whole wheat flour (400 grams)
  • 2 tbsp oil (22 grams)
  • 1 1/4 cups very warm water
  • 1 tsp salt (6 grams)
  • 2 tsp baking powder (10 grams)

Instructions

Step 1: Add all the ingredients to a bowl and start mixing with a utensil like a hand dough whisk.

Step 2: Transfer the dough to a cutting board or table and knead by hand until all the ingredients are incorporated well, about 5 minutes.

Step 3: Divide the dough into six large pieces or twelve smaller pieces, depending on the tortilla size you want. In this image, I made large burrito tortillas. Form them into balls and cover with plastic wrap to rest for 20-30 minutes.

Step 4: Roll out the dough balls into tortillas. Make sure to flour the surface area and dough ball well to prevent from sticking.

(Scroll up for detailed instructions how to roll out tortillas.)

Step 5: Heat a pan on medium heat. There is no need for any oil here. Add the tortilla to the pan and cook for 30-60 seconds. The dough will start bubbling up. I like to slightly lift the tortilla to ensure it has some light browning and then I flip to the other side to brown as well.

Step 6: Cover the tortillas with a kitchen towel to prevent them from drying out. The heat from the tortillas will also help keep them soft.
